Waking up this morning the last thing I wanted to do was
ride a bike. I slept awful last night, and lack of rest when having to ride 80
miles is not good. Wake up was at 6:00 A.M. and we had awesome crew chief
breakfast by Mark Huber from Bowling Green State (hes the best). After circling
up and talking about the agenda for the day, we left for Ely, Nevada. I rode
today with Derek Dedeker from Texas Christian University and Michael Brooks
from the University of Houston. Today was the second day in a row I rode with
two Texas boys so I made sure to tell them how much better Tennessee is than
Texas.
This morning we were struggling putting the miles behind us
because of a combination of being sore, and tired. It was really interesting
talking to the guys, we went over life stories, most memorable fraternity
moment, and talked about other topics. I told the guys a lot about my sisters,
growing up in multiple states, and how Baker Buddies in high school impacted me
a lot. We also went over school, what we were majoring in and our futures.
Unfortunately I was the one who knew the least about how I wanted my future to
look.
After just over 80 miles and 5.000 feet of incline we
arrived in at White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada. Ely definitely isn’t a big
town, but it is much bigger than some of the others we have come across in
Nevada. After showering and getting my things settled a few of the guys and I
went down to McDonalds to kill some time and then headed back up to lodging for
dinner sponsored by the Student Counsel of the school. They brought up Steak
Tacos, which was a nice change from spaghetti, or pizza, which we have a lot.
Once we finished eating and the team took our group picture we had a couple
hours of free time, so some guys went to a bar to watch a basketball game, and
the rest of us went to the movies to see Man of Steel, which I did not enjoy at
all.
Once we got back to lodging I packed up my bag for the next
day and hit the sheets. It was a long day, and 6:00 wake up call comes pretty
early!
