Day off the bikes in Denver

After sleeping in until 7:30 the team was up and ready for a great breakfast at KRG Capital. The two teams arrived at the building and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and great conversation. A lot of the KRG employees were their as well as members from the Push America staff. I talked to a former Pi Alpha from 2006 and it was interesting to see his perspective on his journey, as well as talk to him about how things have changed. Bruce Rogers then did a presentation on his company, and told us about what a private equity firm does. After a group photo the two teams went their separate ways, and everyone was able to enjoy some free time.

David Iles, Kevin Dubbins and I hung out today during the majority of our free time. We quickly came back to the hotel to change, gathered up some stuff and then went to the post office. Throughout the trip I have realized I have extra stuff I don’t need so I sent home that extra stuff to Tennessee and then we went to a sports Store. It is really cool to see how much different Denver is than what I am used to in Knoxville, especially some of the people. While we were standing outside of a restaurant waiting to eat a guy came up to us and kissed us all on the neck. Thankfully the buzzer went off indicating our table being ready at the restaurant, so we were able to get away from the guy. The three of us had a great lunch and then went back to the hotel to relax and watch a movie to wait for our friendship visit later in the afternoon.

After a few hours of free time it was time for our friendship visit, Pedals for Pennies. Push America teams up with Special Olympics of Colorado, KRG Capital, Denver Parks and Recreation and South Suburban Parks and recreation to raise money for research of treatments and cures for cancer. The team arrived at the park and immediately started having fun. Each team member was paired up with a participant and we rode bikes around the lake. Each participant pledged a certain amount of money, and a lot of the guys got very competitive and tried to ride around the lake as many times as possible. I was teamed up with Uriah, a 30 year old who was very energetic. We ended up riding around the lake 9 times, which was 3rd most among over 25 teams. After riding everyone had fun hanging out and eating a great meal! Once a few speeches were given the real fun began. Our team always looks forward to dancing and we were really excited to show off our skills to the Trans team who was also at the friendship visit. The North Team does a dance together and once we were done it was awesome to see the Trans team in shock at how good we were. After dancing everyone said their goodbyes, and went back to lodging for the night.

When we got back to the hotel we had a quick team meeting and then got our mail. I walked into the room and was greeted with six packages. Thank you to everyone who sent me something, including my Mom, Mike, my Dad and Vicki, Lynne and Bob, and Elisabeth! It is very excited to get mail, and I really appreciate people taking the time to send me things. It was a great two days in Denver, and tomorrow we leave the big city and head to Fort Morgan. Excited to see what the rest of Colorado has in store for us.
